A message from John Connon, President of Grampian Houston Junior Golf:

After 25 years, 150 golfers and 30 scholarships, Grampian Houston Junior Golf is bowing out in its current form - but not without a final swing, and we'd love you to join us.

Since it was established in 1992, Grampian Houston Junior Golf has been the most successful programme of its kind in the UK. It has helped dozens of youngsters from the north and north-east of Scotland, who have been offered life-changing opportunities to study at college or university in the US while playing competitive golf.

However, the routes to scholarship have changed out of all recognition in the past 25 years, and the programme's previously unique position has been supplanted by a number of other avenues, including the mainstream use of video and the internet which has allowed instant, continuous assessment of potential college applicants.

As a result, organisers have decided it is time for Grampian Houston Junior Golf to conclude in its current form, but it's not the end of the golfing connection for our young people.

Over the past three years, Bruce Davidson, founder of Grampian Houston Junior Golf and the Kings Links Golf Centre, has been developing a new golfing venture in South Carolina - Congaree - the world's first truly philanthropic golf club. Grampian Houston Junior Golf is now proud to announce that young people from the north and north-east of Scotland will continue to benefit from this venture.

Two youngsters are due to be selected, as part of 12 from around the world, for a pilot residential programme called Congaree Global Golf Initiative, which will allow them the opportunity to play and study in the US. We are delighted that young people will continue to be given access to these life-changing opportunities, and none of it would have been possible without the support from the north and north-east golfing community which helped build what was and will always be the most successful college scholarship of its kind.

To celebrate the success of the Grampian Houston Junior Golf programme and the start of the Congaree initiative, there will be a final Grampian Houston Pro-Am held at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, followed by dinner and entertainment at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa. Teams of three only cost £500 for a fun filled day!
