Stephen Roger (Cruden Bay Golf Club) sealed the North East District Open Title in style by shooting 10 under par over his final 2 rounds, finishing with a total of 277 (-11).

Starting the day three shots behind the overnight leaders Ben Murray and Alan Sutherland, rounds of 68 and 66 catapulted Stephen to a massive nine-shot victory from Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links) and Adam Dunton (McDonald Golf Club).

Stephen adds the North East District Open CHampionship to his trophy haul for 2016 after winning the Scottish Youths' Championship and the North East Youths' Championship earlier in the season.

Paul Girvan, Director of Golf at event sponsor Kings Links Golf Centre, said "It's great to see a winner of the North East's flagship amateur event. We see first-hand how hard Stephen works on his game as he takes full advantage of the free use of facilities and the Trackman sessions we offer the North East squad. It's fantastic to see Stephen's hard work paying off and I'm sure there's plenty more success to come from him."

It was a good weekend for the North East with Stephen winning the tournament and six North East players finishing in the top 10, which bodes well for the Scottish Area Teams Championships at Dalmahoy in September.
